No image handy? — a 1200 × 800 picture generated on this device.

🔒 Private by design: Your files never leave your device — everything runs locally in your browser. No uploads, no server, no copies left behind.

“Please upload a JPG” — and of course your screenshot is a PNG. Format conversion is a fact of digital life. This tool converts between the three formats the modern web runs on — JPG, PNG and WebP — right in your browser, with honest control over quality and what happens to transparency.

The three formats, honestly compared

JPG is for photographs: tiny files, no transparency, and “lossy” — every save throws away a little detail, invisibly at high quality. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency — right for logos, screenshots and graphics, heavy for photos. WebP does both jobs smaller than either (typically 25–35% under JPG at the same quality) and every modern browser can display it — but some older software and a few upload forms still refuse it, which is usually why you're converting away from it.

Transparency becomes a colour

JPG has no transparent pixels. Convert a transparent PNG to JPG and something must fill those pixels — by default here, white. If your logo is going onto a coloured page or document, set the background picker to that colour first and the edges will blend instead of fringing.

What doesn't convert here

The browser can read GIF, BMP and even AVIF and re-save them as PNG/JPG/WebP — but an animated GIF becomes its first frame, and vector formats (SVG, EPS) and camera RAW files are outside what a browser canvas can honestly handle. Those need a desktop tool.

Worked example

Use the sample photo (a PNG, 127 KB). Convert it to JPG at 92% and compare the sizes in the results table — the photo typically lands several times smaller with no visible difference. Convert the JPG back to PNG and note the size climbs again: PNG is faithfully storing every pixel of a photo it was never going to compress well.

How to use this tool

  1. Drop your image onto the box (or use the sample).
  2. Choose the target format — JPG for photos and uploads, PNG for graphics and transparency, WebP for websites.
  3. If converting to JPG from a transparent original, set the background colour first.
  4. Set quality (92% is a good photo default; lower = smaller).
  5. Press Convert image and download the result.

Converting the same file repeatedly?

Every JPG save is slightly lossy, and losses compound: JPG → JPG → JPG slowly softens and speckles an image. Keep a PNG “master” of anything precious, and always convert from the master, never from the last conversion. Need the opposite direction — a document instead of a picture? JPG to PDF turns your converted images into a single PDF, also without uploads.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting PNG to JPG reduce quality?
At 92% quality, not visibly for photographs. Sharp text and line graphics can show slight fringing in JPG — for screenshots and logos, PNG (or WebP, which handles them well) is the safer target.
Why is my WebP file not accepted somewhere?
WebP display support is universal in browsers, but some older apps, printers' portals and office software still can't open it. Convert to JPG for maximum compatibility — that's the most common reason people use this page.
Can I convert an animated GIF?
The GIF will open, but the conversion keeps only the first frame — a browser canvas holds a single picture. Animated conversion needs a dedicated tool.
