You set the password, you know the password, and now the password is just in your way — on every open, on every device, forever. This tool takes a protected PDF you are entitled to open and hands you back a copy that opens cleanly, with the protection removed on your device.
Two kinds of “locked” — and both are handled
PDF protection comes in two flavours. Restriction-only files open freely but forbid printing or copying; they carry no open password, and this tool removes their protection without asking you anything. Open-password files demand a password before showing a page; for those, you enter the password you know — it is used locally, once, to open your file, and is never transmitted or stored. This tool does not guess, crack or bypass passwords: no password, no unlock, by design.
The honest trade-off
A browser page cannot re-save a PDF's internal structure with its encryption stripped out — that needs desktop-grade machinery. So the unprotected copy is rebuilt from faithful 200 DPI renderings of the pages: it looks the same and opens everywhere, but its text is image text — not selectable or searchable. For most “I just need this to open/print/share” situations that is exactly what's needed; keep the protected original when you still need the live text.
Private by design
Like every CalcViso file tool, this one runs entirely in your browser. The file you choose is read by this page, processed on your device, and offered back as a download — it is never uploaded to a server, never stored, and never seen by anyone else. Close the tab and it is gone from memory.
Worked example
The fastest test is built in: press “Create a locked sample to unlock” and this page builds a small PDF and locks it with a real open password — “test123”, shown in the stats panel. Press Unlock PDF, type test123 when asked, and open the result: no password demanded. The full round trip works too — lock any PDF with the PDF Lock tool, then bring the locked file here.
How to use this tool
- Drop the protected PDF onto the box (or create the locked sample) — the tool first checks what kind of protection it has.
- Press Unlock PDF. Restrictions-only files unlock immediately.
- If an open password is required, type the password you know and press Unlock again.
- Download unlocked.pdf and open it once to confirm it asks for nothing.
Only unlock what's yours
This tool exists for your own documents — the report your accountant protected, the statement you secured last year. A password on someone else's document is their decision, and this page won't help defeat it: without the correct password, it stops, every time.
