One product, four marketplaces, one honest ranking

Every fee calculator — including ours — answers the question for one marketplace at a time. But the decision a seller actually faces comes first: where should this product be sold at all? The same $30 product can keep wildly different amounts on Amazon, TikTok Shop, Etsy and eBay, because each platform stacks its charges differently: Amazon layers fulfillment on top of its referral fee, TikTok's light 6% referral grows teeth once affiliates and self-shipping are counted, Etsy's stack is small but its audience is specific, and eBay charges its percentage on your shipping too. This comparator takes one product and one set of costs, runs all four fee engines honestly, and ranks what you keep per sale.

These are not simplified copies: the Amazon column is the same engine as our Amazon FBA Calculator, the TikTok column matches the TikTok Shop Calculator, the Etsy column is the Etsy Fee Calculator's stack, and eBay uses eBay's published final value fee schedule. Feed the dedicated calculators the same inputs and you get the same channel numbers.

Net per unit = buyer payment − platform fees − fulfillment / shipping − attributed fees − advertising − your costs − expected returns cost

Fee facts checked October 2026: Amazon referral 15% in most categories plus the 2026 FBA fulfillment schedule; TikTok Shop referral 6%; Etsy $0.20 listing + 6.5% transaction + 3% and $0.25 processing (US regulatory fee 0%); eBay 13.6% final value fee on the total including shipping charged, plus $0.40 per order over $10 ($0.30 at or under). Every rate is editable — if your category or deal differs, change it and the ranking follows.

Worked example

At the defaults — a $29.99 product costing $8.00 landed at $9.20, free shipping to the buyer, 10% advertising on Amazon and TikTok, a 12% affiliate commission on 60% of TikTok orders, and typical return rates — the ranking is: Etsy $11.87 · eBay $10.69 · TikTok Shop $8.48 · Amazon FBA $6.85. Etsy wins this product on a light fee stack and no fulfillment bill — with the honest caveat below that its audience has to want what you are selling. The gap between best and worst is $5.02 on every single unit, before volume enters the picture at all.

How to use this comparator

  1. Enter the product once: price, your costs, and what shipping costs you when you ship it yourself.
  2. Adjust the channel blocks only where your reality differs — your Amazon category, your TikTok affiliate deal, your Etsy Offsite Ads share, your eBay category.
  3. Read the ranking, then stress it: raise the return rate, turn advertising up, or make the package bigger, and watch which channel falls fastest. That sensitivity is the real answer.
  4. Take the winning channel's number to its dedicated calculator for the full line-by-line breakdown and reverse pricing.

What the ranking cannot tell you

Profit per unit is not profit. FBA's last-place finish in the example buys Prime shelves, Amazon's warehousing and its returns machine, and Amazon search demand is the deepest in e-commerce. TikTok demand is creator-led: it can be enormous for a demonstrable product and near zero without creators. Etsy rewards handmade, vintage and craft-supply fit — a generic gadget may keep the most per sale there and sell almost nothing. eBay's percentage also applies to any sales tax collected, which this page does not model, so high-tax orders cost slightly more there than shown. Treat the table as pricing truth, not a demand forecast — and note that nothing stops you listing on all four, at four different prices.

Frequently asked questions

Which marketplace is cheapest to sell on?
There is no universal winner — it depends on your product's price, size, weight and return rate, which is exactly what this comparator models. In the worked example on this page (a $29.99 product), Etsy keeps the most per sale because its fee stack is light and there is no fulfillment bill, while Amazon FBA keeps the least per unit because fulfillment, storage and ads stack on top of the referral fee. FBA's ranking buys Prime demand and conversion, which a per-unit table cannot show.
Why does eBay charge a fee on my shipping?
eBay's final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale — item price plus any shipping you charge the buyer (and sales tax, which this page does not model). For most categories that is 13.6% on the first $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above that. Payment processing is included, so there is no extra card fee on top.
Is TikTok Shop's 6% fee the whole story?
No. The 6% referral fee is only the first line. If creators promote your product you also pay their affiliate commission on the share of orders they drive, you pay to ship each order yourself (or pay FBT rates), and returns cost you the outbound shipping plus any unsellable stock. This comparator includes all of those, which is why TikTok's real keep is lower than the headline 6% suggests — though it still beats FBA in the worked example.
Why does Amazon FBA rank last in the example?
Because FBA stacks four charges the self-ship channels do not have in the same form: the 15% referral fee, the per-unit fulfillment fee for the size tier, inbound placement and storage, and — at the default 10% — advertising. Sellers pay it because Prime eligibility converts better and Amazon handles warehousing, delivery and returns. Compare the margin here against the Amazon FBA Calculator, which breaks the same stack down line by line.
Are these the same calculations as your other seller tools?
Yes. The Amazon and TikTok columns run the same engines as the Amazon FBA Calculator, the TikTok Shop Calculator and the Amazon vs TikTok Shop comparison; the Etsy column runs the Etsy Fee Calculator's fee stack; the eBay column uses eBay's published final value fee schedule. Change a rate here and the matching dedicated calculator, given the same inputs, returns the same channel figure.
Does the cheapest channel make the most money?
Not necessarily. This page ranks profit per unit, not total profit. A channel that keeps $2 less per sale but sells three times the volume makes more money. Use the ranking to price correctly on each channel — many sellers list the same product at different prices per marketplace so the net lands where they want it.
